Hockey is a very dangerous sport, especially with the fact the players wear what are in effect knives on their feet. When I heard of the injury on the CBS Radio News about 9 o'clock Sunday night, I thought, "Wow! He was able to get off the ice and survive that throat slash?"
Figure skating and speed skating are the only other sports where you actually wear a cutting implement on your feet, but they don't have quite the danger of hockey. It's a wonder there have only been two incidents in the NHL where someone got slashed in the throat with a skate blade.
