Someone has to do something to get this team to play as a team not just for the 162 games of the regular season, but also for the postseason. This team was supposed to be built to win right now. This is ****ing rediculous! At least in 1984, the Cubs were in position to win the NLCS twice until Garvey hit the homer in game 4 and Durham booted it in game 5. In 2003, we were five ****ing outs from the World Series in game six until both Bartman and Gonzalez had those bad hands moments (Bartman where he shouldn't have been, Gonzalez growing an oven mitt on the DP grounder). They had a lead in game 7, but blew it. Last year, nothing save the late lead in game 1 vs. Arizona. This year, nothing save the early lead in game 1 vs. L.A. Something is either physically or mentally blocking this franchise from the promised land. Between 1945 and 1984, it was just bad play that kept them below .500. In 1985, injuries. 1986-88, wrong personnel. 1989, Will Clark. 1990-97, wrong personnel again. 1998, the Braves were too strong. 1999-2002, wrong personnel. 2003, Gonzales' error (and maybe Bartman, psychologically). 2004, another collapse in the last week of the season. 2005-06, Dusty mismanaging the team. Last year, Arizona pitching. This year, bad play in the postseason. You can't point to one thing that has prevented the Cubs from the championship. You'd have to think if the guys who stay get another year together, they'll probably gel. If I were Jim Hendry, I would suggest to the team that they find themselves a neighborhood close to each other and get some group practices together so they can actually gel and work together off the field and actually get the stupid championship ring!
