Let's stay the course and hope they spend the money more wisely.
How often does a 24-year-old, entering the prime of his career, become a free-agent? Never. Players are around 31-years-old - with only a few prime years remaining - by the time they hit free-agency.

Who should the Cubs "wisely spend their money on"? The pitching-market will be scarce, next offseason.

In the case of a foreign talent, teams must trust their scouts. By most accounts, Tanaka is a very talented pitcher, with a nasty forkball. His upside may be too-much for a team to pass-up.

Its not worth the risk. Not for a rebuilding team, plain and simple.

Ever hear of a guy named greg maddox? It happens. Tanaka hasnt pitched against the mlb hitters and has logged a lot of innings at a young age. No thanks. Especially for the money he will demand.

Greg Maddux was a rarity when became a free agent at 27-years-old, but that's still 2-years-older than Tanaka is.

Who should we spend money on, if not Tanaka?
