9 game world series?????

Super Agent Scott Boras sent a recommendation letter to MLB wanting to extend the World Series to a best of 9 games series..... with the first two games opening at a neutral site. He says this way, places like Wrigley Field who have not hosted a World Series in....well, we all know how long it has been... but anyway, the fans would be able to take part in a World Series atmosphere.

Quote:
Arguing that the shift would create a marketing bonanza that would rival the Super Bowl, Boras outlined his ideas in a two-page letter he sent to baseball commissioner Bud Selig on April 15.

"I know from an owner's perspective, this is a gold mine," Boras said. "To have a World Series Weekend, WSW, I think it will create a stage that the game has not seen."

Boras, the high-profile agent with high-profile clients who earn high-octane paychecks, said in an interview Thursday that he will meet with the commissioner after the All-Star break to discuss his proposal. He would open the weekend on a Friday night with a televised gala announcing the MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year awards, and have the five top candidates for each in attendance.

Nine games? It's too long.
Derek Jeter

Hall of Fame voting would be announced Saturday, with the opener that night and Game 2 on Sunday night. After that, the Series would pick up the 2-3-2 format that's been used since 1925 (except for 1943 and 1945, when there were wartime travel restrictions). If the scheduled host club for the opener won the pennant, the Series could become a 3-4-2.

Cities would bid far in advance for the right to host the first two games, and baseball would solicit corporate money, trying to create an event similar to the Super Bowl, Final Four and BCS Championship. Figure on hotels with flowing hospitality suites, ballparks surrounded by champagne-and-caviar-filled tents and tarmacs cluttered with private jets.

I agree!!! The one thing that needs changed is the fact the All Star game decides home field for the WS. I don't like that at all and it needs changed back!!!

I like it at seven. I kind of wish there were no days off though. That shows the depth of your pitching. Its awful tough to beat a team with 2 great starters the way it is. I would hate to see somebody like Verlander or Peavy 3 times IN A SERIES, even though Detroit did not do that last year. I also have problems with the first 2 games at a nuetral sight. What if it is Philly vs. Minnessota and LA won the rights to the first 2 games? I dont know how much interest it would get in LA.

I still cant figure out how an exhibition decides so much. I mean Larussa is 9.5 games out right now. Im sure he will make sure everyone gets to play, whereas Leyland has a good chance to get there again. I think he will make sure he can get as many in as possible, but I could see him calling for a bunt, stealing bases, doing it all just to win.

There is not really a fair way to decide it - but before they did it the way they do now, I think they should give home field to the league that wins the most interleague matchups. This is not fair either, but at least its not an exhibition game.

Seven is a good series. If it changed to 9 then if a team got down 4-0 then what would be the odds of the other team reeling of 5 wins in a row?? Not good. But with 7 there is always a chance for a team down 3-1 or even 3-0.

If Scott Boras had his way, every player would make 200 million per year and the season would be 362 games. I'm in favor of more baseball, but this idea is for corporate America. Its a really bad idea to mess with something that works quite well already in order to line your pocket, but with the commissioner we got now, it wouldn't shock me if they had the entire playoffs in a neutral site. The NFL stinks IMO (Ask Mike Ditka how they treat former players, pathetic). I hate Scott Boras, he is pure greed.

I prefer it to be seven, as a 2-3-2 format for baseball works (while a 2-2-1-1-1 format for basketball and hockey is better than 2-3-2). Of course, back in the early days of the World Series, the teams and the two leagues (the American and National leagues were both independant of each other, Major League Baseball as an entity didn't happen until after the 1919 Series) made gentlemen's agreements as to whether the Series would be seven or nine games. Speaking of the 1919 Series between Cincinnati and the White Sox, that was a nine-game set iirc from "Eight Men Out." We all know how that turned out.

I say leave it alone too, but I love baseball so I would not mind if it happened. I just disagree with the first two games held at a nuetral site. Honestly, with the Cubs fan base, that would probably help us.
