one thing I did notice, is that both the d'backs and the giants are scheduled to host the Cardinals on April 10-13! And St. Louis is supposed to play the Tigers June 24-26.

Damn, I am getting married May 24 next year and I was kind of hoping there would be a Cubs/Cards series here in Stl that weekend. Oh well.

I got married on firefighter appreciation day at Coors field in 2003. Rox v. Cubs, Prior pitching, and I was the only one off duty that didn't attend. I remind my wife that anytime she gets uppity about me watching a game.

Congrats man.

• The Cubs will play the AL East in interleague play but will avoid the top two teams, Boston and the Yankees. They'll travel to Toronto on June 13-15 and play host to Andy MacPhail's Baltimore Orioles for the first time on June 24-26. Finally, the Cubs go to Tampa Bay on June 17-19, a homecoming for Tampa resident and former Devil Rays manager Lou Piniella, who has admitted it was "a mistake" to leave Seattle for Tampa.

• The annual City Series will take place on back-to-back weekends again, after being spaced out the last couple of seasons. The White Sox will play at Wrigley on June 20-22, and the Cubs will head down to the South Side the next weekend, on June 27-29. Piniella got the best of Ozzie Guillen this year. Will the Sox turn the tables in '08?

• The once-heated rivalry between the Cubs and the New York Mets continues to fade into oblivion. The Mets will come to Wrigley only once, for a two-game series April 21-22. The Cubs' final series at Shea Stadium will be Sept. 22-25. If the Cubs are in contention, will Ron Santo make the trip, even though he has vowed to never step foot in Shea Stadium again?

The Mets will move into a new ballpark in 2009.

St. Louis may be the Cubs' biggest rival, but the Cardinals will play at Wrigley only twice, and not until Aug. 8-10. They also play at Wrigley on Sept. 19-21.

• Greg Maddux enters the final year of a two-year contract with San Diego, and though he might pitch beyond 2008, the Padres' May 12-15 appearance could be his Wrigley Field swan song.

• The first rematch against Arizona will take place May 9-11 at Wrigley. The Diamondbacks swept the Cubs out of this year's division series.

Whether Cubs fans can build some animosity towards the D'backs is questionable because the Cubs basically beat themselves.

• If the Cubs are to reach the postseason in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1907-08, they'll have to play well on the road in the final month. They'll play 19 of their 25 games on the road in September, including the last seven in New York and Milwaukee.

Now, does the schedule have any influence in what Hendry tries to go out and get?

Is it just me, or does September seem very scary? Only one series is NOT divisional play! And the one series is the Mets!?! I'm thinking a 10game lead will be needed on September 1st! Wow! So, right here and now, I don't think that looking at September we need to hear in April that "it's early.... there's still time.... it's only April...or May....". Those games are what we are going to need to build a cushion for the end of the season.
