Best record in baseball...again!

With the Rays, Angels, and Red Sox all losing yesterday and the Cubbies getting another win, we once again have the best record in all of baseball. Let's hope our new "Rich" can keep it going for us!

It's a nice feeling to be consistently around the best record in baseball, even if sometimes we dont own it were never too far off.

Yeah, C10, and it's another reason why we shouldn't ever get too down about this team. They are very good and we will be there the whole year. No need to worry about something like the Mets collapse last year happening to this team.

Yeah, playing .600-level baseball is very good. I think I heard after the game on Fox Sports Radio (the Cubs affiliate here also is on FSR), John Fricke said if the Cubs just go .500 the rest of the way, the Brewers and Cardinals need to play 15-above .500 ball just to catch them.

And more good news, the Reds beat the Brewers, and the Pirates just tied the Cardinals in the 9th! We may have an all around winning day!

Dum, duh duh dup, de dahhhhhhhhhhh (That's my Baseball Tonight Update music.)

Pittsburgh hit a two-run go-homer to beat the Cardinals in the 10th! Pirates 12, Cardinals 11! We're 5 1/2 games ahead of the Dead Birds, and six up on the Stale Beer Makers!

No win but still baseball's best record at exactly 60% baseball.

All-Star break and Game trivia:

No team in the NL West has a .500 record.

Tomorrow (Monday) and Wednesday are the only 2 days in America when no major sport has a game scheduled. Football, basketball and hockey are in off-season and baseball takes it break.

The Game is formally played for the "Arch Ward Trophy". Arch Ward being the Editor of the Chicago Tribune who dreamed up the idea of the game in 1933. Old Comisky was the 1st host. It was played to coincide with the 1933 Chicago Century of Progress Exposition.

In 1957 Cincinatti reds fans tried to get all 8 starting position players from the Reds elected. They almost succeeded, only 1B Stan Musial of the Cardinals got in other than these 7:

Johnny Temple, 2B
Roy McMillan, SS
Don Hoak, 3B
Ed Bailey, C
Frank Robinson, LF
Gus Bell, CF
Wally Post, RF

From 1958 to 1969 fans were not allowed to vote thanks to the Reds fans.

In 1959, 1960, 1961 and 1962 2 All-Star games were played.

Each league has scored exactly 326 runs totalled through 2006. Last year the AL won 5-4. If the NL wins by 1 run it will be a tie again.

Of the 18 starters for the 1934 games (game #2) only 1 is not in the Hall Of Fame.

The All-Star game had never seen an inside-the-park HR until Ichiro did it last year.

Yankee Stadium will enjoy the distinction of being the only existing venue to have hosted 4 All-Star games after Tuesday's game. It will last until the post-season when it is demolished and then it will join the old "Cleveland Stadium" as the only 2 to have hosted 4 games.

Wrigley was host in '47, '62 (second game I think) and 1990. The AL has won all 3 games.

Fenway actually hosted 2 games in a row but only the 1946 game was actually played, the '45 game cancelled because of the war.

The New Busch" will host it's 1st next year.

The only All-Star game Grand Slam was Fred Lynn (Boston) in 1983 (is that still true; wasn't 1 hit last year?).

The 1st ever All-Star Game HR was hit by a chubby Babe Ruth, 3rd inning. It was the only 1 he ever hit. He only played in the 1933 and 1934 games. He was replaced by DiMaggio in 1935. (Did you know that the great Ruth won just 1 MVP award in 1923 when he hit .393? Or that he won the batting title just once: 1924, {.378}. Or that he threw 35 complete games once in 1917?)
