Cubs are BAD,but maybe that's good!

We are on the way to the worst record in baseball...I have faith that they can and will accomplish this.First pick in next years draft, here we come...

Lets see who they pick this year before getting excited about next year. The cubs can still blow this thing.

From Bruce Miles blog on Baez

Quote:
Here are a few quotes from Tim Wilken about Javier Baez off tonight's conference call:

"He's got a chance to be at least a 60 or 70 hitter with close to 70 power. He's a little bit better than an average runner, so I'll say 55-60. He's a good baserunner who plays to his speed. He's got a chance to be a 50 or 60 defender at three positions. He's got a 70 arm, every bit of it.

"I think we've got a chance for this young man somewhere down the road to be possibly a middle-of-the-order bat.

"He's got two different swings. He really lets it out at times, and then he's got a good two-strike approach."

On the Cubs possibly taking a pitcher in the first round:

"Sure. We went over a number of them. We did talk about that. But we thought this far outweighed what was available to us at No. 9. We were strong on Javier's ability versus what was there pitching wise. I feel very comfortable with the pick."

Javier Baez has excellent bat speed with real good pitch selection. Two things that can't really be taught and show a natural instinct for hitting.

He is only in high school so it is still a crap shoot.

Plus excellent strike jone judgement, 32 walks to only 3 strikouts with that ..771 ba. The kid looks pretty built. I'll them credit, despite the player development problems, good high-ceiling pick by the Cubs. We'll see how they do today.

BTW the rays have already drafted 10 players, and the Red Sox 5-6 I believe. That's how you build a farm system, use arbitration and Free Agent A/B type guys to get extra picks.

BINGO !!!!!!!!!

You don't trade ANY players in your system for aged pitchers or left handed hitters to play on a team that was clearly never going to compete in your division. All of these players could have been swapped for picks or minor league player swaps that would help to build a balanced team in the future.

I'll drink to that Lee...just how i feel.I want them to trade ,if they do,for some good young players or prospects. We are at least three years away for seriously competing.
