Rick Sutcliffe has been diagnosed with cancer.

I hope the Red Baron will be O.K.
He won the NL Cy Young Award in 1984 with the Cubbies and helped Cubbies win the division title in 1984.

ESPN baseball analyst Rick Sutcliffe has been diagnosed with cancer.

Sutcliffe, 51, was diagnosed after a routine test during a physical revealed that he has a treatable and curable form of colon cancer. Sutcliffe will undergo chemotherapy and surgery over the next few months and said he hopes to make a healthy comeback later this year.

"I deeply appreciate the support of the ESPN family and my family and friends around the country," Sutcliffe said in a statement.

Sutcliffe joined ESPN in March 1999 and has been an analyst during game telecasts since 2002.

"Rick is an integral member of our baseball team and we wish him a full recovery," ESPN vice president Tim Scanlan said in a statement. "We will keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers."

In 15 major league seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals, Sutcliffe has a career record of 171-139 with a 4.08 ERA. He was the NL rookie of the year in 1979 and an All-Star in 1983, '87 and '89. He won the NL Cy Young Award in 1984.
