AUTOGRAPHS

I am a huge autograph collector. Although, I'm having a hard time getting Cubs autographs at games (i've been to about 5 so far this year). I've only got like one so far, and it was by the dugout before the game started.

Does anyone know where to get autographs BESIDES getting them before the game? Also, does anyone know how to get autographs by mail?

GO CUBS!

If you go to where the players park (right across the street from the fire station off Waveland), many of the guys will come out before they leave and give autographs. I have gotten Todd Walker, Matt Murton, Scott Eyre, Sean Marshall, Wade Miller and many others.

Walk down Waveland and then when you hit the fence that has all of the really really really nice vehicles in there, that's where you want to be.

This is a picture of Soriano and Z's Hummers (Soriano's is blue...Z's is the black one)

Ya know what? I think I've seen that certain area before. Although, outside of the parking lot, they do have signs saying "No autographs as players leave the park." I think I might be answering my own question here, but does this mean you go INTO the parking lot? What about security guards?

You can stand along the fence....which starts there at Waveland and goes all the way over to Addison. The players will come over to the fence. The sign I think is there to stop people from chasing the players down in their cars. there are a few security people there, but they are pretty much there to open and close the gates to the fence for the players as they leave.

Best chances for autographs are on days they win, although a few will sign regardless. It is sometimes hard to get them on a day they leave for the airport right after the game, as many of them carpool to the airport and the wives actually drive their vehicles home.

On game days, if you get there super early in the morning, sometimes you can catch them going to the park.

Now, if you want opposing players autographs, their bus pulls up to the gates by the Harry Caray statue, as their clubhouse door is right down the concourse from there (wasn't sure where the entrance was until last Wednesday's game when the press was crowded around the door and a "press conference" area was set up right by their entrance to the visitors clubhouse to interview Bonds

BTW...welcome to the board. Are you from the Chicago area? Are you close to Peoria? I have gotten autographs from Ryne Sandberg, Santo, Nomar Garciaparra...all at the Peoria Chiefs game. Tomorrow night, Kerry Wood, Henry Blanco and Ernie Banks will all be there (as well as Sandberg, who manages the team). Bobby Dernier has been there a couple of times too, as first base coach. Sandberg always spends about 45 miuntes before each game signing autographs.

Thanks a lot, Ryno. It seems like you realyl know your stuff!

I live about 45 minutes away from Chicago and about 3 hours from Peoria. I do live near the Schaumburg Flyers stadium (ever heard of the team?). They're not as big as the MLB, although some players have had MLB experience, but not a lot of it. They have mostly AA experience (some A or AAA).

I hope to talk to you soon!

A great place to get them is at Spring Training practices. I know that doesn't help you out a whole lot up there, but if you happen to be in Arizona in February and March there are tons of opportunties.

In the past I've got:
Aramis Ramirez
Derek Lee
Ron Santo
Fergie Jenkins
Jaque Jones
Todd Walker
Michael Barrett
Dusty Baker
Kerry Wood
Ryan Dempster
Latroy Hawkins
Matt Clement
Corey Patterson
Matt Murton

That was pretty much over the course of 5 practices.

Thanks Doba! I occasionally go to Arizona for vacations and stuff. I've always wanted to go to a practice/game in Mesa, so I'll try to plan it sooon.

Since I live in Iowa I go to a few Iowa Cub games. Sunday me and my son sat right behind the Cub bullpen. My son got a ball signed by Neal Cotts, Carmen Pignatiello and Randy Wells. Last time we were there he got Ryan O'Malley and Rocky Cherry. It also happened to be fan club day so he had a bat signed by the entire team and I got a team ball signed. Pie, Cedeno, Murton etc. About a dozen guys that have seen time in Chicago and a few more who will before long.
Minor league games are a good place to get autos. A few of these guys are going to be stars some day.
