Plesac leaving Comcast for MLB

Crain's is reporting that Dan Plesac is leaving Comcast for the new Major League Baseball network.

Crain's attributes the news to "sources" and says Plesac will be an analyst for the new network.

MLB Network set to launch on Jan. 1, 2009
Projected to launch in approximately 50 million cable and satellite homes on January 1, 2009, MLB Network will be the largest and most successful debut in cable television history, exceeding any other cable television launch by approximately 20 million. With live games, original programming, highlights, classic games, and coverage of baseball events, MLB Network will be the ultimate television destination for baseball fans.

That would suck, I like Plesac. But it would be a nice opportunity for him with MLB TV.

I wonder if Mediacom will carry MLBTV when I move to Vinton (should be any day that I'll be signed on full-time with the newspaper I'm currently doing part-time work). They still don't carry NFL Network, and just got Big Ten Network this fall.

I just sent an email to mediacom to ask them if they will carry it.... from what I understand, though, it won't be a channel you have to subscribe to, it is just supposed to be a channel like ESPN, where as long as you get cable, you should get it assuming your cable company carries it.

Pleasac has come a long way in his broadcasting career in a short time. When he first started with Comcastsportsnet, he was HORRIBLE. He covered for Bob during Spring Training a few years ago while Bob was following his son playing baseball for college, and Dan was so dry and his broadcasts, you could feel how uncomfortable he was. This last year he was awesome...both in his pre and postgame analysis' and he overall broadcasting. I'm happy for him.
