I like LaRoche over Pena.... I don't see the Cubs trading Aramis....I believe Fukudome will be traded.

Carrie Muskat is tweeting that Cubs are close to deal with Pena and may have news by morning...

Good deal for the Cubs.

With a one-year deal if they are out of it they can flip him somewhere at the TDL or offer him arbitration at the end of the season and get a draft pick out of it.

The only thing I don't like is that the Cubs are paying a guy who hit .196 10 mil. Though it's probably what the had to do to get the guy. I think he'll more than likely return his form of previous years. His 25-30 dingers should help too. Plus he'll be playing in the NL central and not the AL east.

About the only good thing.

$10 mill for a .196 hitter after a three year decline.

But I'm sure that with all the good contact hitters in this Cub line up he should do great

He had very bad luck last year, similar to Soto in 2009

The walks will help, they'll need it once Fukudome is traded, Colvin is given the fulltime RF job, and the lineup is reverted to a bunch of hackers and free-swingers like during the Dusty years, with the help of Rudy. I foresee alot of opposing pitchers going deep into the game against the Cubs.

I like the Pena signing last night!

Did the Cubs overpay? Sure. But they did so to limit his contract to a one year deal. So the Cubs now get a power, left handed bat who plays good defense. Oh, and he's playing for a long-term deal next off-season. In Wrigley, come summer time, Pena is going to produce very well!

I'd still like to see the rumored O'Day/Davis trade come to fruition. It would add depth both in the bullpen and on the bench.

Everyone say goodbye to Fukudome! Big Jim's off-season may hinge of how exactly he facilitates a Fukudome deal. If he simply dumps a productive player like Fukudome for salary relief, then we are in trouble.

If the Cubs are truly shopping Gorz like it's been reported, that could be good news for people like me who want to see Cashner start!

Cubs now looking to acquire Matt Garza

I have a feeling Cashner will be in the rotation anyway once Silva falls apart. I'll guess we'll see if he stays stretch out in Iowa or not after camp breaks.

Garza sounds good, but I won't hold my breath.

I mostly agree and hope you are right. I know Pena will want to produce and that is what fuels my fear of him failing. If the Cub players of last year , go on another extended run of not hitting , Pena will be pressing snd increase his already inflated strike outs.

If we can just ride this out and hope that Hendry does more help than harm for the future of this club.
