Time for Pie at Wrigley Field?

With Alfonso Soriano going down with a hamstring strain last night, is it
time for the Cubs to call up Felix Pie? I look at some of their options as
they will try to fill in for Soriano. Check it out and let me know what you think

That thought crossed my mind last night as Soriano was being helped by the trainers last night walking off the field....among other things going through my mind that I can't mention on here for the sake there might be kids reading it. My other reaction is NOW Murton will get to play...it's not exactly HOW I wanted to get Lou into the everyday lineup. I did think Pie...especially after they were talking about how this might be Pie's open door IF Soriano goes onto the DL for any extended period of time. However, I didn't think about the service time and business side of the whole thing (thanks for pointing it out). Honestly, IF Soriano heads to the DL, I'm wondering if they won't bring up another bullpen pitcher.

Jack...another great article. Thanks for sharing!

I'd consider bringing him up if Soriano goes on the DL. But seeing that he's just day-to-day, I think they're gonna stick with how the outfield was last night after he left. Like I said before, I think that's an ok outfield to work with for a few days.

IF a stint on the DL happens, I also forgot they have switch hitting Pagan waiting in the wings... the only reason he didn't make the opening day roster is because Lou decided to go with the extra pitcher in the bullpen. Pagan is hitting .273 and is able to play all outfield positions. He had a 3 hit game on Monday.

Yea, but from what I've heard, Pie is hitting over .400 right now.

I'd love to see Pie, however, Jack pointed out in his article that more than likely we would have to see Soriano go to the DL for an extended period of time to get Pie because if they bring him up, the clock starts ticking for his service time in the big leagues and the whole arbirtration thing. If they keep him in the minors, it kinda protects him in the Cubs organization since they have long term plans for him, and when Soriano would come back (IF he goes to the DL), there would be nowhere to play him on a regular basis, which is something he needs.
