Peavy to the Cubs on life support?

If the Padres want to deal star pitcher Jake Peavy to the Cubs, it appears they have some work to do.

"The Peavy thing isn't dead, but it's on life support," one person familiar with the Cubs' dealings said.

With the Braves out of the talks, at least for the moment, the Cubs appeared to be San Diego's best hope for a trade. One reason for that is that Peavy seems willing to consider waiving his no-trade powers to join the Cubs.

Meanwhile, the Cubs are surveying the lefty hitter market, which is strong. Bobby Abreu, Raul Ibanez and Adam Dunn are among about a half-dozen hitters they're considering.

I want Peavy SO BAD... I hope it eventually happens.

As for our need of a left-handed bat... for god sakes... NO DUNN!

I am with you.
Go after Orlando Hudson to play second.

From what has come out, the Padres are concerned about Vitters wrist injuries

Can I ask Why Hudson?? His numbers are rather pedestrian. I would rather play DeRosa in RF and Font at 2b rather than use resources on yet another 2b

I would take Dunn/Bradley/Abreu/Ibanez in that order

Hudson plays a gold glove defense and he also does the little things. I get to watch him since I live here in Phoenix and I have always been impressed with his game. Sometimes numbers don't tell the story of a player.
If you look at Jeters numbers they don't blow you away but when you watch him you see he does a lot of things that don't pop out on paper.
The guy is a career 280 hitter.

I like Hudson. He does do alot of the little things that you don't see in the stat sheet(gets an extra base, good clubhouse guy, etc), on top of being a solid hitter and above average defender. But the Cubs need isn't at 2B. The need is in RF. Besides, signing Hudson wouldn't be a significant upgrade at 2B. We have DeRosa and Fontenot, both alot cheaper then Hudson.

A lot of the little things that were missing in the playoffs. Besides if you go after a guy like Dunn you can help mask his defensive liability in RF a little more.
Maybe not an upgrade with the bat but an upgrade in the field for sure. The guys range is insane. Besides I am sure the Cubs could pick him up cheap. It is the year for it and Fontenot could be used in a trade. Derosa could go back to have he does and play everywhere.
Hudson also cant keep himself going for 162 so this gives MD a chance to do what he did last year.
