Very interesting trade rumor (cards/brewers)

Puzzling.... with the kind of year Braun had...

Scott Rolen: Trade to Milwaukee Brewing?

RotoWire.com Staff - RotoWire.com
Friday, November 30, 2007
Update: The Cardinals are reportedly working on a trade that would send Rolen to Milwaukee.

Recommendation: There would be other players involved in the trade, but the main players would be Rolen and Chris Capuano. The sticking point in the trade is if the Cardinals would also send money to Milwaukee to cover Rolen's salary.

When healthy, Rolen's glove is second to none. His bat is very good also. The trouble is, he has been injured for much of the last three seasons. The Brewers were very happy with Brauns offense, but his suspect defense at third base may intice a move to the outfield.

Weeghman you are right

The Brewers did play him some in LF during ST last year, but he was just as bad, including a single that bounced over his head.

I thought the Brewers had another hotshot LF, Matt LaPorta, who was going to take LF this year. Maybe they are just thinking that Rolen might be a good late-inning defensive replacement who can actually hit, and limited playing time would keep him healthy.

In any situation, the Cards are probably better off without Rolen, even if they are paying off part of his salary

The deal has been declared "dead" because the Cardinals do not want to trade a player of such value within the division and the Brewers are not so sure they want to take a chance on a player that has such a long history of injury (it would have cost them at least Capuano).

Rolen wants a trade to get away from La Russa. THey've had a falling out and TLR called Rolen out in the press about it. The cardinals said they wont trade him just to trade him, but will do so if the price is right. TLR wants him playing next year. I wouldnt be surprised if the Angels made an offer.
