It sounds like the negotiations between the teams for the compensation to the Red Sox are getting interesting. ESPNChicago.com reported the Sox wanted Matt Garza in the package, but the Cubs said no. They're talking now about minor leaguers.

Epstein is already paying off.

Josh Vitters and DJ Frenchy have been taking alot of walks and working pitch counts in Arizona Fall League

It's official. Epstein has resigned as GM of the Red Sox yesterday to become president of baseball operations of the Cubs. Compensation will be worked out later.

Anybody catch the press conference??

Here are what I thought are the best highlights
-Crane Kenney will continue to run the business side

-Noted how renovations and ads at Fenway helped bring in a ton of revenue

- Someone asked about what he thought about Hendry brining in free agents in their early to mid 30s. Theo said he understands how the prime years of a baseball player are from 26-32 for both productivity and dollar value standpoints, and will work to keep a productive core of players in this range (Fielder???)

- Will create a standard manual of fundamentals, discipline, statistical analysis, and strategy from the rookie leagues through the big leagues so that players are coached consistently

- made a joke about Office space and someone spotting him at Starbucks two weeks ago

- From what I took from it, he will increase the size of the front office (currently one of the smallest in baseball) to include more personal for every facet of the game (scouting, statistics, instruction, etc.) and they won't be limited by dollars.

Sounds like Theo wants to hit the ground running on starting to build this team into a perennial contender.

Obviously you don't expect ground-breaking stuff at a press conference like this, so I thought Theo satisfied all my expectations. He said the right things, and had the right attitude.

I thought he seemed very business-like, quite like the man who hired him. I can see what they click (which was another positive thing Theo said).

YES, You hit the nail on the head. I miss baseball in Chicago, Cubs baseball. It made me physically ill to see the Cardinals win another one and how they stole it with a mediocre team. It made me think that in 103 yrs why the Cubs couldn't have just done that once?????????

It truly is mind boggling to think about that and they must be jinxed. Theo is a move in the right direction.

Did Larussa retire to come to the Cubs?

Ditto .

This is the first time in modern baseball that they had to make compensation for a GM and , we still have to pay for Hoyer . I hope that doesn't cut as much.
