The writing's been on the wall since 2009. The was the last chance for Hendry to have a winner (remember they were in first place at the beginning of August that year). The fact he didn't turn over the roster that offseason doomed him and I think most people figured it was a matter of time as the roster aged and the farm system for the most part failed to fill in the gaps outside of Castro.

I'm impressed by how tight-lipped the Ricketts are. It seems like he made up his mind long-ago.

The article said the Cubs were 749-748 under Hendry as GM. Just one game over .500. That's not a good GM. More like mediocre.

Then why not make the change then ? Why let Hendry hire Quade ? Why let him run the trade deadline ?

Odd

thats a good point.

Sounds like he basicly wanted Wilken/Hendry/Fleita to run the draft for some reason, which was not a bad idea considering the results and the money he put into it.

The Cubs don't have anybody that would have brought a huge haul at the deadline anyway, I think this was a pretty good assesment on Ricketts part. Marmol, Byrd, and Dempster can be dealt in the offseason when they have less money owed to them.

Even Pena would have brought back at best a second-tier catching prospect at best from reports.

I was in MN the night he was hired

along with the other stiff- I was sittin in the pub people were congratulating me on how the Cubs would win a championship etc. I said hold on it is the cubs people you have no idea. The cubs can manage to pry defeat from the jaws of victory like no other. I haven't had any hope in years but I may have a little now.

Don't get too giddy yet , Krane Kenny is still there and with Tom Ricketts fullest support , full stop .

Need to see who he hires and what changes they are allowed to make.
