I couldn't have said it better myself. It's still Roger Marris' record in my book.

Yea, I don't think he deserves to be in.

It's easy for Cubs fans just to be pissed at him because he was a card. (Do note the lack of capitalization of "card") However, I don't think his numbers are good enough to be in the Hall. I also don't think that 500 homeruns is "magical" anymore. I think that with players coming in bigger and stronger than they did 50 years ago, I think that the new "magical" number is more up around 600. I do realize that that means that Barry Bonds will make it in... but I kind of think he deserves it.. even if he is a cheating bastard.

Bonds also had a 40-40 season. I almost forgot that he used to be able to run until i read that the other day.

I could be wrong about this and tell me if I am, but I think he only had 1600 hits in 16 seasons. That's not that good. 100 hits a season.

I have to be wrong about this.

I don't think the writers will vote in McGwire because of his fiasco in front of the Congressional committe a couple years ago that was investigating steroids use/abuse. "I'm not here to talk about the past" will live in baseball infamy right next to "I've never bet on baseball."

What McGwire didn't realize (or didn't want to admit) was that he was there to talk about the past. If I was on that Congressional panel, I would interrupt McGwire and tell him in no uncertain terms, "Yes, you are here to talk about the past. We're here to investigate use of steroids in baseball, past, present and future, and frankly, Mr. McGwire, you, Mr. Sosa and the absent Barry Bonds are all linked in some way to performance-enhancing drugs, Mr. Bonds most directly so. Either answer our questions about your use or nonuse of steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs, or I will move to have you found in contempt of Congress."
