Cubs Caravan plans are set

The Cubs Caravan will hit the road Jan. 16-17, and make stops at a combined five cities, six elementary schools, a Boys & Girls Club, and Chicago's Northwestern Hospital.
The Caravan will consist of two tours, and also feature a charity luncheon benefiting Cubs Care at Harry Caray's restaurant in downtown Chicago.

For the fourth year, the Cubs are working to promote literacy in area schools via the "Cubs Spotlight on Reading Program" in conjunction with Comcast Spotlight. The program is designed to increase literacy levels by promoting reading enthusiasm and rewarding students for their achievements in reading.

The 2008 Caravan itineraries are as follows. The rosters will be announced in the future on cubs.com. For more information about the Caravan events, please contact the Chicago Cubs media relations office at (773) 404-4191.

CUBS CARAVAN ITINERARIES

Tour One:

Wednesday, Jan. 16
Northwestern Hospital, Chicago, hospital Visit. Harry Caray's Restaurant, Chicago, Cubs Care luncheon Rupley School, Elk Grove Village, Ill., Cubs Spotlight on Reading Masonic Temple, Freeport, Ill., Charity Dinner, Little Cubs Field. For information, visit littlecubsfield.com. Tickets go on sale Dec. 15 from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. CT at Freeport Lincoln Mall.

Thursday, Jan. 17
McCorkle School, Chicago, Cubs Spotlight on Reading Avalon Manor, Merrillville, Ind., Charity Luncheon, Gary SouthShore RailCats Wood Elementary School, Merrillville, Ind., Cubs Spotlight on Reading Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Indiana Hammond Club, Hammond, Ind., Cubs Spotlight on Reading

Here are the rosters:

The rosters have been set for the Cubs Caravan, which will include two tour groups Jan. 16-17. Cubs manager Lou Piniella, coach Matt Sinatro, Ryan Theriot, Rich Hill, Carlos Marmol, Kevin Hart and Jeff Samardzija will be part of Tour One, which will make stops at Northwestern Hospital, Rupley School in Elk Grove Village, and the Masonic Temple on the first day, and at McCorkle School in Chicago, and Avalon Manor, Wood Elementary School, and the Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Indiana Hammond Club in Indiana on Jan. 17.

Tour Two will include pitching coach Larry Rothschild, bench coach Alan Trammell, Geovany Soto, Tyler Colvin and Rocky Roquet for both days. It will stop at Nettelhorst Elementary School, George Washington School, and the Holiday Inn South on Jan. 16, and at Franklin Elementary, U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington, and O'Brien Field and the River Plex in Peoria on the second day.

On Jan. 16, Tour Two will be joined by Cubs general manager Jim Hendry, and Tour One will include broadcasters Bob Brenly and Len Kasper. Pitcher Ted Lilly will join Tour Two on Jan. 17.
