New Chicago Sports Web Radio station
Quote:
Mike North's Webio signs up Kittle, Ofman, loses Greenstein
Posted by Ed Sherman at 3/13/2009 6:00 AM CDT on Chicago Business
The new sports talk outlet, Internet-based chicagosportswebio.com, has added Ron Kittle and George Ofman to its lineup.
Mr. Kittle, the 1983 Rookie of the Year for the White Sox, will be the station's baseball analyst. Webio also is in talks with former Cubs Doug Glanville to be an analyst.
Mr. Ofman, who covered Mr. Kittle in 1983, joins the station as a field reporter and fill-in host. He spent 17 years at WSCR-AM 670.
Webio, though, will have to find a replacement for Teddy Greenstein. The Tribune college football and golf writer was supposed to work the 9-11 a.m. slot with Matt Weber, formerly of WSCR.
However, Mr. Greenstein said the Tribune would not approve of him handling a daily radio job.
"I met with the editors, and there was a feeling that the two-hour time commitment plus preparation was too much," Mr. Greenstein.
The venture, headed by Mike North and David Hernandez, president and CEO of Spectrum Entertainment, is slated to hit the air on April 6. The station will broadcast original programming on Webio from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
According to Senior Vice-president Jeff Schwartz, ever since news broke this week about the new station, he and other members of the staff received more than 160 e-mails from people inquiring about positions.
"People know we're out there now, and they want to be with us," Mr. Schwartz said.

This should be interesting. I'm not a huge fan of Mike North... and I think Teddy Greenstein is an ass, so glad he's not going to be out there in the media any more than he already is, but George Ofman is a pretty good sports guy...and should be interesting with Doug Glanville and Ron Kittle.

I'm not too fond of him, either. His show with Dan Jiggets, Monsters in the Morning on Comcastsportsnet isn't too bad, but he isn't near as annoying as he was on the Score, perhaps it's because Jiggets kinda mellows the show out a bit. They had the Bulls dancers on one morning, and North really kinda made me mad because the girls were doing a dance for the cameras and he kept dancing across the stage in front of the camera.... heaven forbid he NOT be the center of attention at all times.
I do have to hand it to them, tho, they cover a lot of really good Chicago/Illinois sports topics with lots of interesting guests.
