Lot's of goings on today....

I just heard a report from Bruce Levine on ESPN 1000. I had to listen to the game today because I was at work, so if some of this has already been talked about on here, sorry for the doubling up, but I didn't see much on here about this.

1. Ward: the MRI's were done after the game, and from what LeVine heard, it wasn't good news. In fact, really bad news. He said it sounds as if Ward may miss the rest of the season....

2. Floyd: sure, day to day, but this is Cliff Floyd who's injuries are really forcing Hendry's hand to do something to get another run producing bat into the lineup (he mentioned Kenny Lofton's name....saying he is an excellent second half run producer)

3. Wood made another rehab appearance and reached 95mph on his velocity. He is planned to make one more rehab stint, then head to Chicago for his charity bowling event to raise money for Project 3000 this weekend. He is also supposed to meet with upper management to discuss his next rehab assignment, and could be with the team by the end of July!

4. Lilly stole a base! That is more amazing than when Maddux did it a couple of years ago! He has played in the AL most of his career and is following the footsteps in a Jason Marquis! Okay, maybe not, but he has done some pretty good offensive things lately.

5. Levine also speculated that the following may happen: it looks like Ward is going to be heading to the DL. They may bring up Scott Moore (who came up last year when Aramis was on the DL). They may also soon make a move to bring Cedeno back up (possibly sending Fox back down if they bring Moore up). If this is the case, it makes me think that they are showcasing Fox for something bigger coming up. Since they sent Izzy to the Pirates, I'm thinking that once DeeLee is back, we will see Cendeno back up at short. They moved Izzy for PTBNL to make room for a backup first baseman (which paid off today with Ward going down). thank god we have such versitile players, such as a DeRosa and a Theriot!

6. Bonds...well, at least the Cubs won! How awesome is it to see that even though Bonds had 6 RBI's the Cubs still pulled off a win? *

Dempster is returning to the team tomorrow, and Gallagher will go back down.

Lou has also decided that Alfanso will not be batting 5th anymore, even against Lefties, as he went 0-8 in that little experiment.

That's bad news about Daryle. He's probably one of the best if not the best pinch hitter in the game. Hendry has made a couple moves already....I see a couple more for the 'pen.....Ohman is horrible.

Yea I kind of figured that was coming with Soriano, although I have been one that wanted him to hit there all year. I did notice he was struggling when he went down to 5th. I hate to hear that about Ward, he was some big thump coming off the bench. As far as HRs go, thats what they can do for you- they can get you right back in the game. At one point today I think we had had something like 21 baserunners and scored 9 , whereas the Giants had about 13 baserunners and scored 8. Thats what big BAll can do.

I don't think Cedeno will immediately take over shortstop, because before the game, Lou was talking about how Theriot's won the starting job at shortstop, and Derosa is gonna take over 2nd most of the time, and Fontenot getting in for some games there. And if they do bring Cedeno up, it would be stupid to give him a starting job right away, because he's really never proved that he can. Even after tearing up winter league over the offseason, he didn't do well at all earlier this season.

Young players need time....and can be given if their team isn't in a playoff chase (unless they produce). Pie and Cedeno picked a bad year to try to may the big league team.....not to mention Eric Patterson who will be on this team next year.

I'm very excited about seeing Patterson and getting an idea about his abilities. I understand he might be the top-o'-order offensive force it was hoped his brother would be. He's solid defensively too I hear.

I'm I the only one seeing a big middle infield logjam? Theriot, DeRosa, Fontenot, Cedeno, & Patterson? It might not be a bad idea to deal a bigger prospect like Patterson to land an impact player.

I hear Wood is lights out . I don't want to have to count on him but , he would do wonders for the clubhouse. He is the true leader . Everyone has respect for him.

Lilly is just plain cool . That should be his nickname Cool Hand Lilly !!

DeRosa is Captain America !! He is the best ball player I have seen . The best J. H. hire ever.

There are a couple good names there , Cool Hand Lilly and , Captain America !!
