Ok lets do this!!

Ok I'm back so lets do this!! what do you think about Theo and Co's signings this offseason?? I'm not overjoyed but hey its not about this year either right? Still kinda puzzed on the Edwin Jackson signing. Is he #3 after Garza and Samardzija??

This offseason has been just about as painful to sit through as last season. I am still trying to fully trust Theo and company, but in Boston, he didn't thoroughly dismantle the team and build from scratch. Beggars can't be choosers and this team desperately needed pitching. From a free agent aspect, it's going to be hard to lure a top notch free agent when this team is nowhere near ready to win in the near future, which can't look too glamorous for a pitcher looking for somewhere to pitch. I'm heading to the convention in a few weeks, and this year, I'm taking my brother so he can be with my son in the "kids stuff" so perhaps I can catch a few of the Q&A seminars with Theo and management. (I wasn't able to hit those last year because my son didn't want to sit through them). I did hear that Garza helped "woo" Jackson to come to the Cubs, so perhaps the players have a little more faith in what is happening than we do as fans!

Very happy to see some activity here- let's hope the trolls stay away, just from respect, they should be aware that they essentially destroyed the board last time (that, unfortunately might bring out some highly defensive reactions !).

The 2013 season is about 4 months away - not long at all. Just a winter to get through (hope you folks up North are doing O.K.!) It will be "play ball" before we know it.

I like the plan Ho-0Stein seems to be following although I couldn't really articulate it easily. Modern baseball - low cost, youth and high, long-term return with a focus on players in their peak years (ages 27-32). Be careful with free agents and long term contracts unless a player is in his middle twenties (and if he's good lock him up for the peak years and then let somebody else make him rich).

I like the Edwin Jackson signing; a solid 3 - 4 pitcher with the ability to be better. He's always been well regarded and maybe he's maturing now. Age 29 - been around since age 19 but didn't become full-time until age 23 (still quite young). A .500 pitcher who gives up a decent number of hits and walks but also keeps power down and has a somewhat high WHiP. Who be a very good #5 pitcher who pitches about 200 innings a year and gives you a chance in most games. At 29-30 (he turns 30 mid-season) maybe he's maturing into a really solid #3.

The future of the offense is bright as well, Rizzo and castro are players to build around (solid core). Good extras are in the pipe-line and Hoy-Stein will get what's needed I am sure. I'm excited !

I thank they can flirt with .500 this year (say 70 - 80 wins) and start to be genuinely good in 2014. Lord I hate the wait but the Cubs time is coming I really believe it!

When you left I knew the old board was dead - very depressing. Let's keep posting and encourage others to post and post respectfully (and often). Let's get fogpog back to what it was.

This re-building is new to me! In most of my Cubdom days, I've been used to the upper management just throwing big money, long term contracts at the biggest names on the market! That being said, because that's all I've really seen, I've also seen what a mess that creates (Soriano will be stealing bases in a wheelchair by the time his contract is up!) I have to learn to be patient and trust in what they are doing. I've also seen what "home grown players" can do by watching Darwin Barney quietly make a name for himself.

Sup everybody....its been awhile. On the cubs front im loving the rebuilding, what worked for theo in boston may not work in chicago and thats prolly why he's taking this particular approach. I must say though i do not wanna give up on Bjack for upton.

I don't think I would want to give up Bjax for Upton either... I don't think we have seen the best potential in Bjax yet. He's not ready for the majors, IMO, but it was nice to catch a glimpse of the future when the present team was really disappointing to watch!

All I am going to say is. The wait will be worth it. I am glad Theo and Jed blew this thing up and started over with the "Cubs way". I really don't think its been ever done in Cubs history. Usually its the "over the hill guy hopefully he can do something signing" I'm no talent scout but I think the Cubs are headed in the right direction. It's going to be painful to watch for a couple of more years, but I trust Theo when he said he wanted to build a team for continued sucess not just one year flash in the pan.

Im excited as well, ive painfully watched losing seasons in the past...some of which probably shortened my life by a couple of years due to the stress lol. This last season i didnt mind the losing because it was apparent theo and co. were taking the right steps and it was so nice seeing some of the key pieces of the puzzle coming together with castro, barney, castillo...rizzo becoming my favorite player before he even got called up and yes i agree bjax wasnt ready yet but i loved what i saw he looks just cocky enough to be a star in the future
