Wood does great in first rehab assignment

The news from Mesa is good for the Cubs. Kerry had his first rehab assignment. He threw 14 pitches and struck out the side in the inning he pitched. I'm sure they will see how he feels tomorrow and progress from there. There is talk that we will see Woody in the beginning of August in the bullpen for the Cubs if all goes well.

For all of you that don't remember who Kerry Wood is, he was once one of the Cubs top pitchers who even had a 20 strike out game in his rookie year. (LOL).

I'm pulling for Kerry to do well, and get back to Chicago. He loves playing for the Cubs, and is a leader in the clubhouse. It would certainly shore up the bullpen if he can come back healthy.

Yes, most of us know that Kerry Wood had an 20 strike-out 1-hitter in 1998.

Too bad, that time is long gone... I don't even care about Wood updates anymore... it is useless... he will come up for 2-4 weeks and throw something out.

I'm not going to pay much attention to him. To much hype surrounds his comebacks then he just gets hurt a week later.

I'm still trying to remember who this Wood guy is? Wait... They did a move on him... He was played by Johnny Depp.. No, that was Ed Wood...

I gotta be honest, I'm drawing a blank...

I have to admit here ryno4ever- I do want those updates. This guy supposedly took 1.75 million dollars this season and did not sign elsewhere. He said he owed it to the Cubs. Other teams would have taken a chance on him and given him more money. I am glad he is coming back. The guy is not just a piece of meat. He has been injured many times. Blame that on the Cubs front office and coaching staff for not teaching him proper mechanics. Yea its frustrating that he and Prior are always hurt, but its not like they can control what is going on inside their shoulder, arm, or elbow.

Wood is a very respected and valuable guy in that clubhouse. He has done a lot for the city and team off the field. He has had legit injuries and has just been thrown into the "list of vague injuries" on Prior's list because they were both so highly looked upon in baseball and both went down at the same time, on more than one occasion. I would love to be at Wrigley if the day comes when he takes the mound for the first time. I was actually at a double header a couple of years ago where Prior and Wood took the mound on the same day....Wood lost, Prior won.

I was at a game in '03 when Wood SHUT THE BREWERS DOWN! But the bullpen is where he will probably reside for his career.....if he can ever resume.
