3B options

Reports have Aramis going to the DL, and being gone for 4-6 weeks(rough estimate given). So the question is, what should the Cubs do to replace him? 4-6 bad weeks could really put a team behind in the division. Playing both Fontenot(3B) and Miles(2B) for 4-6 weeks couldn't cut it, could it? Ryan Freel can play 3B, but he's not the answer everyday is he? Then their is Jake Fox who is tearing it up at the plate in Iowa. But he's been playing LF, and his defense at 3B would be hard to swallow. Could the Cubs trade for someone? Unfortunately I think the Cubs are going to settle with rotating Freel/Fontenot/Miles between 2B and 3B. And that is bad news for Cubs fans!

The whole idea just sickens me... Aramis is my favorite every day player.

I have been following Jake Fox this year, and paying close attention anytime someone says anything about him, including yesterday when the Iowa Cubs radio man was interviewed on The Score. The basic conception from everything I have heard is he is a player without a postition. While he is tearing the cover off the ball, he is a butcher with the glove. Alot of people say that he was made for the DH slot in the American League. I am not too sure how much I want to see him at third.

But yea, you are right, we are going to get Freel/Fontenot/Miles having a rotation between second and third with a bit of Scales being mixed in. With Ram going on the DL no one has to be sent down to make room for Freel.

As much as i like Hendry for all the good moves he has made, he really screwed up letting Derosa go. Thanks JH.

I agree with the Dero part, but more importantly Aramis is a player that is known to miss 10-15 games or even more each year. He is an irreplaceable player on this team: however we still should have had another option and we dont. The Freel trade was a huge move especially now. I think Soriano has to be dropped in the lineup by default now. Freel, although probably not an everyday player, can help fill this void.

OK , stop it with the DeRosa angst !!

The biggest problem with losing Rammy is losing his bat and DeRosa would have never done that.

I think Cub fans are just ready to pull their hair out because all offseason we were saying how horrible the offseason was and now there's proof of how awful it was. When Hendry spent all winter building a deal around Peavy and not really focusing on some of the other glaring needs this team has, injury after injury...and a time bomb for a bullpen... we are waiting for it all just to explode. Flashbacks of 1985 and 2004 fill our heads with each injury report fed to us....

Rammy is not just going to be missed for his bat, however.... he plays one heck of a hot corner and none of his possible replacements are going to even touch that. Ram has saved so many runs with his glove out there at third...

I would almost like to try D-Lee at third . I think he would give us the best range out of all of our choices.

So true Heather. Aramis has never gotten the credit he deserves for his defensive ability. While the league knows about his bat, us Cub fans know that he plays a pretty darn good 3rd base

I guess we will end up seeing a rotating round robin 3rd basemen of the day kind of thing. None of which can fill Aramis' shoes, but filling his void will rest on the collective shoulders of this team. All the guys must step up.
