Spring Training

Veteran reporters are commenting on how this year it is so much more professional at camp than they can ever recall.

They said camp in the last few years was more like a resort getaway than work. This year it is all work and Epstein and Hoyer are setting the bar , always busy in meetings and setting schedules.

There is actually a plan book that everyone is working from !

I love that Epstein made a comment about partying before day games.

Well it's working. They look more professional on the field as well.

What does "more professional" look like, on the field?

Joe Mather is hitting the crap out of the ball and looking good at running it down and getting it back in. He would be a perfect bench player for this young team.

Mather's spring has been a nice story... But it's JUST spring training. He's battling two players who have established major league ability(Campana, Johnson). Unless there is an injury, Mather should not be on the roster.

You know what Lee... I thought about my post, and maybe I was wrong. Maybe Mather has a better shot at making this roster than I thought. Tony has been awful this spring.

He came through the Cardinal organization so you know he is solid on his fundamentals .

Nothing against guys like Mather, but the lack of homegrown depth this spring training should remind everybody how poor Tim Wilken's drafts have been.

It seems that Mather is now a lock...

Anyone else worried about Samarzija being in the rotation?
