Rumor Mill

On cbssportsline- the baseball page- under rumor mill- it says under Cincinatti that Griffey will only accept a trade to Atlanta or Chicago. The Dayton Daily News reported it.

This may be old news.

Atlanta scares me on this one though. If you look at them- it looks as if they do not need a CF or RF- where Griffey plays- however Jones is a FA at the end of the year and they have already said they would not be able to pay that kind of salary next season. I dont think they will trade Griffey for Jones. I think a third team could come into the mix and get Jones, and the Braves give the Reds some prospects. Everyone knows the BRAVES always have good prospects.

I'd love Griffey on the Cubs but I wouldn't overpay for a 37 year old outfielder. so for me it would depend how much the Reds wanted.

The Braves have Jeff Francour in right. He's got a great arm and isn't having a terrible year at the plate. While the Braves have a lot of talent, Scherholtz is no dummy and won't give up too much either.

i don't think the Reds are going to deal Griffey. It doesn't make a ton of sense from a PR standpoint. The Reds stink, and Griffey's their draw, especially how he's approaching 600 home runs. Dunn, Hettersberg, and Gonzalez might be a different story.

Here's some more information on possible Greiffey trade with a collection of links:

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ken_griffey_jr/index.html

I would love to see Greiffey as a Cub for a year or 2 but, as 1 example, Sean Marshall is too much to give up. He might be very good in the years to come.

Literally at the bottom of the second piece is the comment that, if healthy, David Wells might try to pitch 1 more year in 2008. He's not the pitcher he once was, of course, but he does have veteran presense and if he could pitch like a #3 what do you guys think about him coming to the Cubs (cheaply) to stabilize our young rotation for a year ? He could help I think.

I am not a big Wells fan, so I would not like to see him in a Cubs uni.

Griffey would be OK if he stays healthy and the Reds take JJ.

No way would I want to see Wells. I wish Maddux never would have left. Such a valuable guy to have the younger guys learn from. I wanted him to retire a Cub and stay on the bench as a pitching coach for years to come.

I respect your vote of no on the trade, however I would definately like it. To say Griffey stinks though, I definately disagree on that and have no idea where you are coming from saying that.

Griffey for JJ is a trade I would definitely do. However, I can't imagine that the Reds would only want JJ in return for Griffey.

Griffey would be a great aquisition at a position where we need an everyday player.
