Milton Bradley Signs With Cubs

Milton Bradley Signs With Cubs
By Tim Dierkes [January 5 at 3:10pm CST]

According to ESPN Radio's Bruce Levine, the Cubs signed Milton Bradley to a three-year, $30MM contract "with some options in the deal." Bradley, 31 in April, had a monster .321/.436/.563 line this year for the Rangers, but he spent only 165 innings in the field. This is the first multiyear deal of his career. If he stays healthy, the switch-hitter will give the Cubs balance in the middle of their order.

Be careful when using ESPN as a source, some people on this board will slam you for it.

10 million per season, for a guy who's played over 130 games in a season once, and who's career high for RBI's in a season is 77, and home runs is 22. Terrific! There is a reason he's never gotten a longterm deal before. There's also a reason the Cubs will be Bradley's 7th team in only his 10th major league season.

I wouldn't make many changes. Call me crazy, but I liked last seasons team. 97 wins isn't a bad year. If anything, I would have wanted the Cubs to have a lesser payroll then last season. Big Jim sure did panic.

The deal is not "inked" yet... Bradley is expected in Chicago on Thursday for a physical and it won't become "official" until then... but it is "unofficially official" I guess.
