Instant Replay

Stick to traditions or get with the times?

I wouldn't mind seeing it as long as it doesn't get abused. The umpires do a very good job and get the majority of calls right, but they have been known to make mistakes.

Using it for balls and strikes would be out of the question.

I would say add instant replay but only on the fair-foul and home run/no home run situations. That way, they can figure out where the ball was in those situations, provided there was a good angle and good resolution in the replay.

This is how I would like to see it used.

Why not close calls at the bags? That can also determine the outcome of a game so if it is ever put into the game of baseball I would like to see close plays be able to be reviewed. But more than instant replay I wish they would do away with the DH, thats not baseball IMO.

I would be down if it was used under the most crucial calls.....be allowed 1 per game or something like that

I would use similar to football rules, an extra out if the replay is in the call's favor. Each team gets 3 per game possible. OR only umpires can call for the replay.

They introduced the so called "third umpire" in cricket about a decade ago, and its used pretty well: just to get runners out (i won't explain the game!), and check if a close call is a four or a six.

But I'm not sure I'd like to see it in mlb: it only happens 2 or 3 times in an average cricket game but even if it were only used for baserunning and fair/foul it would come up a dozen times a game in baseball, and would probably add a couple of minutes every time. Maybe like nfl, or tennis i guess, with limited attempts (but that would be harsh on teams playing against teams who run a lot).

Good shout by ryno on only umpires calling replays.

Only under these conditions would replay in baseball work. Would the White Sox have won the world series if there was replay? Probably not..
