Tearful moments......
We don't always love sports just for drama in the wins/losses, stats, action, etc.... a lot of what really gets to us in sports is the story behind the player... or the achievement that you know means alot to the person/people involved. That's why sports movies are such hits.
I just watched the postgame stuff with Jon Lester who, at age 24 has been diagnosed and beat cancer in 2006, came back and pitched the clincher in a World Series and tonight threw a no hitter. I teared up. Okay, so I cried like a baby..... but it was such a touching story.
Just wondering if anyone has any stories about a sports moment/story that made them tear up or cry....or want to cry?
-I teared up after the fans gave Maddux a standing O after his last start at Wrigley.....
-I also cried when he pitched his last game in a Cubs uniforn and as he walked off the field with a standing O and tipped his cap ever so non-chanlantly.....
- How about Ryan O'Malley's first start in a Cubs uniform.... what an amazing story.
-Woody's first major league appearance out of the pen..... you knew how hard this guy had worked for that very moment, to get the call and walk to the mound and stand there in front of the Wrigley Faithful....
I'm sure I'll think of more......
anyone want to share stories?

You can't forget about when Santo got his flag raised at Wrigley.

I was at Wrigley in 2004 on the day that Maddux was honored for getting his 300th win. I had the best seats I ever had in the 200+ games that I have been to (4th row, right behind the Cubs dugout). I was getting choked up during the ceremony just thinking back on all of the great accomplisments in his stellar career. He was very humble, as usual, and gave most of the credit to his teammates.

Okay, so trying to breathe some life back into the board, and during a not-so-hot stove period of time, it's not the easiest thing to do, so I'm going to try to revist some previous posts and generate some Cub talk...any Cub talk!
On this topic, Kerry Wood's last inning (and what followed as he walked off the field) definitely a tear jerker! I was one calling for him to retire for about a month before he actually did, but it still didn't make it easier to watch him walk away!

Mine was seeing my grandpa cry after the Cubs clinched the NL East in 1984 in Pittsburg he cried he was so happy and then a few weeks later when they lost. He told me I hope you never feel that pain of being a fan of your favorite team to get so close then lose it. Boy did I in 2003. However the season of 1984 will always be etched in my mind as the season I really bonded with my grandpa and the Chicago Cubs.
