NINE IN FOURTH LEADS TO NO. 13: The Cubs won their 13th consecutive home game with an 11-7 victory vs. the White Sox yesterday – the North Siders scored nine in the fourth inning, including two solo homers by Jim Edmonds, who became just the third Cub to homer twice in the same inning ... he joins Mark Bellhorn (August 29, 2002 at Milwaukee) and Sammy Sosa (May 16, 1996 vs. Houston) as the only other Cubs to accomplish the feat.

This 13-game home winning streak, which started May 18 vs. Pittsburgh – is Chicago’s longest home winning streak since taking 13-straight from May 19-June 17, 2001 … the club looks to win 14-straight at home for the first time since June 4- July 10, 1936.

The Cubs have 47 wins thus far this season, surpassing their win total in the entire first half of last season (44-43) – the Cubs have 20 games remaining before the All-Star break this year.

SPEAKING OF STREAKS…: Ryan Dempster is 8-0 with 2.93 ERA (19 ER/58.1 IP) in nine home starts this season … his eight-game home winning streak is the longest by a Cub since current teammate Jon Lieber won 11 straight during the 2001 season.

Dempster is looking to become just the fifth Cub since 1945 to win nine-straight home decisions … it’s been done by Lieber (11 in 2001), Rick Reuschel (10 in 1979 and nine in 1977), Bob Rush (10 in 1956) and Johnny Schmitz (nine in 1948).

LOOKING AHEAD: This marks the final game of a three-game set against the White Sox before the Orioles make their first-ever appearance at Wrigley for a three-game set, June 24-26 … following this stand, the club will stay in Chicago for a three-game set at U.S. Cellular Field against the White Sox, June 27-29, before heading out to San Francisco (4 games) and St. Louis (3 games).

RARE OCCURANCE:
Cubs historian Ed Hartig reports that yesterday’s dual back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning (Edmonds and Fontenot, then Ramirez and Edmonds) marked the first time ever the Cubs had two back-to-back homers in an inning … it was only the 10th time in club history the team had two back-to-back homers in a game.

ABOUT THIS SERIES: The Cubs are 32-30 against the White Sox since this rivalry began, including an 18-14 record at Wrigley Field … in 62 games, the Cubs have outscored the Sox, 306-301.

The Cubs have won five straight against the White Sox dating to June 22, 2007, and eight of nine since July 2, 2006 … the North Siders are looking to sweep a three-game set against the Sox at Wrigley Field for the first time since July 2-4, 2004.

WINNING WAYS AT WRIGLEY: The Cubs 31-8 start at home is their best start at Wrigley Field since the club began playing here in 1916 … the last time Chicago went 31-8 in its first 39 home decisions (excluding ties) was in 1886 at West Side Park … Chicago has won its last 13, 16 of its last 17, 20 of its last 22 and 26 of its last 30 at Wrigley Field.

Chicago’s 31 home victories and .795 winning percentage lead the majors … Tampa Bay is second in wins (30) while Boston is second in winning percentage (.757).

The Cubs lead the majors with a .388 on-base percentage, .312 batting average and .506 slugging percentage at home.

COMEBACK KIDS: The Cubs lead the majors with 24 come-from-behind victories this season … the Orioles are second with 23 come-from-behind wins while Tampa Bay and Oakland are tied for third in baseball … thanks to the Elias Sports Bureau.

FACING THE BEST OF THE BEST: This series against the White Sox marks the Cubs’ fifth straight in which they are facing a staff with an ERA in the top-five of their respective league … the White Sox own a 3.44 team ERA, tops in the majors.

The Cubs recent series against the Rays began with Tampa Bay posting the fifth-best ERA in the A.L. … before that, Toronto’s team ERA was third in the majors when they faced Chicago.

AGAINST THE A.L.: The Cubs own an 82-83 all-time record (.497) in interleague play since its inception (in 1997) …. the Cubs are in the ninth game (4-4) of a stretch that has them playing 15 consecutive contests against American League clubs through June 29.

Last season, the Cubs were 8-4 against the A.L. and the .667 winning percentage tied the franchise’s top mark in interleague play (club also went 8-4 in 2004).

ON THE RECORD: At 47-28, the Cubs boast the best record in the big leagues (the Angels are second at 45-30) … Chicago’s record marks the club’s best start through its first 75 games in 31 years since 1977 when they were 48-27 … in fact, the Cubs have been better than 47-28 through 75 games just twice in the last 90 seasons (1969, 1977) and seven times since 1900.

LEADERS OF THE PACK
The Cubs entered the month of June with the best record in baseball for the first time since 1908 … that club led with a 23-13 record (.639) … here’s a look at this year’s top records entering today’s action:

Hey Heather, you get to watch the game at home tonight! I just got my first laptop today (birthday gift) so I'm excited to get it out of the box. I'm taking it on vacation with me so I don't have to miss even one Cubs game!
