City of Chicago flags use in Cubs culture.
I wonder if there has ever been any talk, or how it would be possible to start some talk, of getting the city of Chicago flag more in use by the Cubs. I think if the cubs displayed the flag more and pushed the fans to use it more, the the flag and the team could enjoy a good friendship.
My basis for this is the Fire. The Fire use the flag a great deal at their games, with both fans at merchandise they sell. In 2004, they even made a alternate jersey based off of the flag. The flag is found a lot in Section 8, the organized fan section (of which I am a proud member) and at other parts around the park.
If the flag was maybe displayed by the team, and even a smaller version given out one day as a give away, then the team can begin to heavily assocaite itself with the flag, and thus tying itslef even more to the city.
I just see this as a perfect match. Most Chicagoans I talk to are proud of being from the city, so why not try and tie oursleves closer to the flag. Yes, not all Cubs fans are from the city or suburbs, but I still see this as a great idea.
From the Fire, I have even more a sense of passion for the city and the flag, and in fact showing it off and waving it is one of the most fun parts of Fire games, and trying to bring it to Cubs fans could produce an extra sense of pride with the city.
