We look like the Brewers.....

On defense . Bob said 8 errors in only 7 GAMES!! They need to shore it up if they wanna win....Yes I understand the new field will take some adjustment time, but you can't expect to have 3 errors each game and hold a lead (today), let alone win.

Oh the Pirates have a new field too? Or does that excuse travel with the team? Not trying to get on you, but I think that excuse is pretty lame. I agree they need to get their act together because this crap where you boot a routine ground ball is just unacceptable in Major League Baseball. Especially from guys that have been known to have good gloves.

Even with a new field there are a few adjustments that have to be made. I think the after the first homestand if they don't improve you can only blame the players, and for the errors at fields they're somewhat used to there isn't any excuse.

A win is a win. I'll take 3 errors a game if it means a win. But, errors don't help wining.

I agree, I just don't want them to make a habit of it.....Pitching and Defense wins championships.

Im sure that they will be fine in time, it is the first week and plays that they should be making they are not, doesn't mean that they wont. I consider us quite a good defensive team, we have made some errors but over the course of the season i expect us to be one of the better defensive teams.

Lets not focus on the errors and focus on the good defensive plays, Cedeno's in the late innings to rob Bay and Fukudome's nice catch in the 12th.

BigZ is right- pitching and defense wins championships. Going into the game we had allowed 5 unearned runs and now 1 more today makes 6. I do think its just a small bump in the road right now, but Ill take somebody that can make all the routine plays over somebody that makes a great play ever now and then along with some errors. Great plays are good dont get me wrong, but if they are not made they go unnoticed.

Your right, i dont argue that defense wins championships or that i would take a routine out for a great play. Im just saying that i believe that it as you said is just a bump, so instead of over reacting to it, lets focus on some of the good plays that were made. I whole heartedly agree that errors are going to cost you ball games, but today they didn't thankfully.

The thing with errors is they dont always cost you runs but they do cost you in other areas. Errors make your pitcher throw more pitches and create pressure. The more jams a starting pitcher gets in, the less effective he is going to be - because he has to overexert himself to get out of the jam. I dont really think pitch count matters so much. I mean if it did, I dont think a pitcher would throw 8 warm up pitches an inning. What tires a pitcher, in my opinion, is the jams he has to work out of.
