Brewers won.

Cubs and Brewers are tied now. So, by this point next week, the Cubs could be:

A. 4 games OR MORE out of first
B. 4 games OR MORE in the lead
C. or some how still be tied.

A LOT has to happen to this team internally for B. or C. to even be a possiblity...

They better start doing some soul searching.

The bad thing is we are going to have to start watching the Phillies, Mets, and Marlins now as well as SL and the Crew . We have managed to comeback to the pack.

To answer your Q- next week at this time we will have a 1 game lead

we will both win tomorrow

we will split in Milwaukee, however we will lose the lead on Monday, but leave there in a tie

They will split the first 2 vs ATL, while we will be 2-0 vs the Buccos

the bats will wake up in Brewerland. That park is a launching pad for some reason as MR Braun showed tonight.

The way we are hitting we could well find ourselves 3-4 games back after the Brew series.

that is a big possibility. All we can do is hope we can win today, and hope for a split at worst in cheeseland.

The Cubs have given up a 6-game lead over the course of 10 games

That's frickin pathetic, especially with the pitching the cubs have been getting since then.

THe brewers are better on the road, better in 1-run games, and have an easier schedule from here on out, which makes the head-head games with Milwaukee so much more important than they appear.

It really is starting to look like a reversal of last year.

So, I took my wife out to dinner for her birthday last night and then we went out for drinks after. We are sitting in a bar and, of course, being in St. Louis watching the Cards game and chatting. Mostly chatting. She brought up a similar point to HeyHey's. The difference is that she said it with less cynicism and sarcasm. We were talking of the Cubs while we were enjoying the Cardinals struggles. She said that basically it is good that the Cubs are going through this nasty slump right now at the end of July rather than in September. Two people that I hate telling they are right...HeyHey and my wife. The bottom line is this:

A. It's still early
B. We ARE still in first...tied, but still in first all the same.
C. If we are having these conversations three weeks from now, then we have a problem.

This team has to start hitting soon. We have all of our guys back with the exception of Wood, so there should be zero excuses. I mean, it's not like the Cubs have had many save opportunities since Wood last pitched and pitching has not been their worst problem anyway. I willl agree (again? Twice in one week?) that it is still early, but something positive needs to happen with this team soon or the edge of that cliff will get awfully crowded.

That's the key. I'm sure a lot of people will agree there is still plenty of games left in the season, but we need to come out of this funk soon. The problem is we have seen a second half meltdown before. Is that what is happening now or are we just in a slump? That is the big question.

The other big question is are the Brewers "peaking" right now as HeyHey said or are they just heating up? I think we all hope that they are going to cool off, but no one knows that for sure. If the Cubs can't correct their problems on the road it really won't matter if the Brewers have peaked because they will still pull away from us.
