Who Is Cedric Duane Redmond ?
Another thread on Fogpog got me to looking a Minor League rosters, specifically Iowa's. What caught my eye was a 19 year on Iowa's active roster assigned uniform number 5. 19 years old; in fact a very young 19 (born 30 August 1988).
Apparently drafted out of Joliet Township High School in the 27th round of the 2006 draft (809th overall) he pitched a handfull of innings in AZL (?). before jumping to AAA to face 1 batter. From high school to AAA - that's not real for a 27th rounder. (An "Oakton Cummunity College" is also listed under schools. I'm guessing he chose the pros over college.)
Anybody from the area know anything about this young man?
I'm guessing he's on the Iowa roster for reasons that amount to some clerical mix-up or incompleteness or lack of reasignment. But why did he pitch at AAA in the first place? If he's legitimately at AAA at 19 they've seen something they really like and he's a name to remember.

i think he must have just been kicking around and filled in for a game, but that is odd, looking at his rookie league numbers makes me think we may not hear about him again for some time (prove me wrong Cedric )

Don't be so sure, that K/BB is pretty impressive.
We'll have to see where he is assigned this year.

Mmm, point well taken, but we do have quite a few hard throwing righties (i'm assuming he must be a flamethrower from those style of numbers, unless he has a trick pitch of some sort, which is unlikely given his age). how many 95+ righties can we fit in the pen...

hey guys... i played football, basketball, and baseball with Ced at joliet township HS from 2003-2006.
He's 6'3 slim and long and throws low/mid 90s with amazing offspeed to go with it. kind of a quirky motion and has an excellent pick off to first.
I havent heard from him since he left for spring training...
::i wonder where he is now::

That doens't alway work. I have a friend playin in the Braves system and if you search for him, his name doesn't come up. But if you go to his team's actuall website, he's all over it.

Cool.
Cedric was part of the Peoria Cubs ST rosters, so he is probably at EXST if he isn't on the Peoria roster
You could try and email Arizona Phil at 'The Cubs Reporter', who covers the EXST and Mesa Cubs

yea, ced still lives in joliet as far as i know. Joliet is about 30 mins. south of Chicago. He attended Joliet West and I attended Joliet Central.
I still play baseball at Joliet Junior College NJCAA Div. 3 #1 ranked team. www.njcaa.org www.jjc.edu
I am a red shirt soph. i had surg. on my shoulder in Oct.
As a fresh. I batted .331 with a team leading 6 HRs. and a trip to the 2007 NJCAA world series where we placed 2nd.
#15 Ed Koncel, SS 6'3 195, (also from Joliet West) potential draft pick
#5 Dillon Roark 6'2 175 (Willmington, IL) is a potential draft pick also.
2007 stats: IP: 54.2 R: 21 ER: 13 H: 40 SO: 44 BB: 22 ERA: 2.14 5-2
2008 stats (4/28): IP: 62.2 R: 13 ER: 9 H: 40 SO: 76 BB: 15 ERA: 1.313 7-1
Also in 2006, as Ced was takin in the 27th round. A C/OF by the name of Joe Benson was drafted in the 2nd round by the Twins out of Joliet Catholic High School. I still think hes in A Beloit.
