NBA's going back to the old balls
Everyone got tired of the new ones, so they're going back to the old ones starting at the beginning of 2007.

That's kind of dumb, only because if there going to change, why not do it now? and why would they try to change them anyways.

Well it's supposed to keep it dryer but it doesn't, and have more grip.
A university did a study on that, and the old one stays dryer.
They did a bounce test, the old one bounced different.

Also, some players reported cutting their finger tips on the new balls becuase of the rough surface.

The new balls were made of a microfiber composite, which the NBA thought would have stayed drier than leather, but the players have said the new balls actually were slicker than the old balls. The old balls, as stated, bounced better than the new balls, and the microfiber balls supposedly are rougher than the leather balls, causing the cuts in the fingers as the players complained. I guess the people who tried to develop the new balls didn't get a full test of the balls in game situations. You can't get a true performance of a basketball in a lab, but in a game situation. The new balls failed the true test, and Commissioner Stern has learned the lessons.

I say they need to bust out the old red, white, and blue like the Harlem Globetrotters, now that would be sweet!!!

Actually, the ABA used the red, white and blue ball, too. I don't think the NBA should do it. I think they should keep the two-piece design they used with the microfiber composite, but integrate the leather.
